Punk
This is not then about postpunk or any other, now I write about my relationship to original 70's punk (and this is not what I've listened to all weekend and this day, sorry)
First punk song that I really loved was "Kiss Me Deadly" by Generation X ( you may notice that the singeer is Billy Idol). That wasn't song long-lasting band, just few years, like many other punk band, but not as famous as others. Unfortunately, cause for example Sex Pistols is sometimes just too childish band to listen. But when I heard "Kiss Me Deadly" first time (I suppose in 2008 or something like that) I fell in love for a moment. Weird love, 'cause the song came from radio, and I didn't hear it all and I didn't know even its or the band's name. Just the melody.
Anyway, Generation X is still one of my favorite punk bands, and I like Billy Idol, too. He had show in Finland last summer in the same day as Green Day, that's why I couldn't go there. Otherwise yeah.
My favorite punk bands are all from 70's; Ramones, The Clash and others. Those old school punks just were to popular. I find it ennoying, that punk's popular, or has been, cause nowadays it's almost as alternative as indie (which is in fashion nowadays so it's popular).
It's so wrong to think that punkrockers were idiots only 'cause they didn't make so difficult music to understand. Punk is simple, but that doesn't mean they couldn't listen some Pink Floyd if they feel like to. But then it wouldn't be punk, cause punk was originally a protest against rockbands which made songs lasting over 20 minutes. There's nothing to do with idiotism.
Middle-aged people always think and say that Ramones was some personification of idiots. That's not true, their lifestory is sad but somehow beautiful. In the 70's, young people were out of social system, cause after studing they couldn't get a job because for a depression. And in nowadays it's still fucking difficult and expensive to get to university in Britain. I understand them; it's better to play punk than use drugs and kill themselves, right?
If Sex Pistols is childish, Ramones stupid and Generation X perfect, what you have then? The Clash, of course. Nobody can say it's stupid, cause it criticized violently Britain's government and leadership. Other punk bands wanted to shock or whine about their bad situation, the Clash showed how bad the situation is aroung Britain or around the Europe, or anywhere where are you people outside of social system. That's why the Clash is still quite hated in "real" punk circuits. Sadly, cause Joe Strummer is genious. Almost.
Generation X - Kiss Me Deadly
I still love it too much ♥
Ramones - Pet Sematary
This made me cry when I heard it.. third time?
The Clash - London Calling
War is declared.
That was my opinion of punk. What about yours?
